Meet Dr. Troy Norred

Dr. Troy R. Norred is a board-certified cardiologist and interventional cardiologist whose career has been defined by a commitment to advancing cardiovascular medicine through compassionate patient care, scientific investigation, innovation, and lifelong learning. Throughout more than two decades in practice, he has remained guided by a simple principle: every patient deserves the same thoughtful, evidence-based care he would want for his own family.

Raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Norred developed an early fascination with science, engineering, and solving complex problems. Those interests ultimately led him to medicine and to a career devoted to improving the lives of patients with cardiovascular disease. After East Central University, he earned his medical degree internal medicine from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Dr. Norred pursued advanced postgraduate training by completing a fellowship in cardiovascular disease University of Missouri Health Science Center. He then completed an advanced fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he trained at the historic Charity Hospital, one of the nation’s premier high-volume interventional cardiology centers. Dr. Norred then completed an additional training in Coronary CT Angiography at both Johns Hopkins University and the Cleveland Clinic, expanding his expertise in advanced noninvasive cardiac imaging.

During medical school, Dr. Norred conducted basic science research in molecular oncology using subtractive hybridization and a streptavidin-biotin filter system to identify rarely expressed genes associated with bladder cancer. This work resulted in a peer-reviewed publication and established a lifelong commitment to scientific investigation and innovation.

Innovation became a defining characteristic of his career. During medical training, Dr. Norred conceived and developed a catheter-based system designed to replace the aortic valve without open-heart surgery. Years before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) became an established therapy, he was awarded a United States patent for this pioneering concept. His work anticipated one of the most important advances in structural heart disease. His story as a physician-inventor was later featured in a 2016 Popular Mechanics article.

During fellowship, Dr. Norred worked with internationally recognized heart failure pioneer Dr. Karl Weber, participating in research involving cardiopulmonary exercise physiology and heart failure. That experience continues to influence his vision for expanding advanced diagnostic cardiovascular services.

Throughout his career, Dr. Norred has cared for patients across the entire spectrum of cardiovascular disease including coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, pulmonary hypertension, valvular heart disease, hypertension, cardiac rhythm disorders, and preventive cardiology.

With experience performing more than 30,000 cardiovascular procedures throughout his career, Dr. Norred brings a depth of clinical judgment and technical expertise that few cardiologists can match. Patients benefit not only from procedural skill, but from decades of experience recognizing when an intervention is appropriate—and when it is not. His philosophy has always been to recommend the right treatment for the right patient at the right time, whether that means advanced intervention, medical therapy, or careful observation.

His procedural experience includes coronary angiography and intervention, peripheral vascular intervention, limb salvage procedures, cardiac catheterization, pacemaker implantation and management, transesophageal echocardiography, electrical cardioversion, echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, stress testing, ambulatory rhythm monitoring, and comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation.

This philosophy ultimately inspired the creation of Norred Cardiology—an independent cardiovascular practice dedicated to restoring the physician-patient relationship while providing advanced cardiovascular care close to home. The long-term vision is to develop a regional center of excellence featuring comprehensive imaging, vascular diagnostics, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, structural heart evaluation, remote monitoring, clinical research, and future office-based cardiovascular procedures.

Closing Thought

“My career has been guided by a simple belief: every innovation, every procedure, every hour of study, and every decision should ultimately serve one purpose—to improve the life of the patient sitting in front of me. That responsibility has been the greatest privilege of my professional life.”
